DARIAH-EU Annual Event - October 2016, Ghent

From 10-13 October 2016, DARIAH-BE organised the DARIAH-EU Annual Event, which took place at the Ghent University Convention Centre ‘Het Pand’ in Ghent. 144 participants from 23 countries across Europe and globally registered to take part in the four day event. The event was organised in two parts: 1) the DARIAH-EU Annual Meeting and 2) the Digital Arts and Humanities Lab. Both were kicked-off with an inspirational keynote lecture. Additionally, there were opportunities for colleagues to work together on their DARIAH activities face-to-face, such as Working Group Meetings. On Tuesday 11 October, participants were welcome at a social dinner at Het Pakhuis.

  1. DARIAH-EU Annual Meeting: This part of the event was the Annual DARIAH-EU member’s meeting, which builded on previous General Virtual Competency Centre meetings. A key part of the event was the Working Group Marketplace where existing and new DARIAH-EU Working Groups introduced their working group and provided an update on their activities. The marketplace set-up helped facilitate interaction between the working groups. Additionally, there were updates from the DARIAH-EU team and an interactive workshop, which enabled colleagues to provide input on future directions for DARIAH.

  2. The Digital Arts and Humanities Lab was an interactive session bringing together researchers, technologists, data scientists and cultural heritage professionals, to demonstrate and engage with data, tools and services around the theme of digital arts and humanities. This part of the event focused on bringing the ‘arts’ to DARIAH. Additionally, there were presentations from projects who have been awarded funding as part of the DARIAH Theme programme.
